| Matthew Muldoon, on Fitness & Faith: Fitness is, to me, a way of life; it's a lifestyle. It is about being healthy, being active, and being able to move and use the bodies that God gave us in a way that produces a beneficial outcome. Fitness can be fun, and guess what: it is! To be able to use your body the way it was designed to be is one of the most valuable things in life. The saying, "Health is Wealth" is very true. Fitness has many facets and levels, but the most important thing to remember is that fitness works for each person in a different way. What works for one may not work for the other. One may accomplish a great workout on a treadmill, while someone else of the same age and body type may need to run outside to enjoy it. The great thing is that once you find out what works for you, you can then enjoy a fuller, happier life and make a great investment in your future!
What is faith? According to The Bible (Hebrews 11:1), faith is translated as "being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Faith is trusting that all things will work out for your benefit, no matter how difficult your current circumstances are, or how bleak your immediate future looks. Faith can move mountains, and it can move the mountains in your path, enabling you to live the life that God intended for you! Now comes the question: How are fitness and faith related? For me, this comes easy, because of the emphasis I place on both. I know that when I make the choice to exercise, I am honoring what God gave me. When I choose foods that are natural, and not processed, I am placing an importance on my health. When I have done everything that I can do to stay healthy, then, and here, is where faith comes in: the rest is up to God. I know, in faith, that if I do all I can to honor the body God gave me by exercising and eating well, then He will honor that and do the rest. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?" When you begin to place a high value on the body God gave you by treating it right and maximizing its potential, and let Him do the rest, by faith, you can expect great things from the greatest gift He has bestowed on us!
